HOUSTON – Houston police hit a mother who’d just gotten off a bus with her three children Thursday night.
She died Friday at Ben Taub Hospital where she was rushed for surgery last night, police said.
Witnesses told police the 41-year-old mom was crossing the road with her children and may have dropped her bus card in the street and was hit when she bent down to pick it up.
Police are saying their preliminary investigation shows their officer was not speeding and it was the woman who should have yielded the right of way to the car.
This happened along Antoine Street near Pinemont in NW Houston.
The victim’s 18-year-old son and two younger daughters were with her when she was hit.
A large crowd gathered initially and people were upset.
“We got a loud crowd. They were very upset about what had just occurred and they kinda just all dispersed,” said Commander Luis Menendez-Sierra.
The department’s Internal Affairs Division is investigating.
